TEL Strategy

At the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics we drafted our TEL strategy mapping it to the following:

  • Objective 2 of UCD 2015-2020 Strategy : “Provide and educational experience that defines international best practice”.
  • Curriculum Review and Enhancement Process (2017): “Expansion of the use of technology to enhance learning”
  • UCD Undergraduate Student Feedback 2012-2017: “students would like to see a better use of the VLE”

Looking also at DELTA Framework (National Forum), approaching technological integration with SAMR model in mind. Watch the quick video below to see what is SAMR model

At our school we look at the following:

  1. Empowering all SLCL staff with digital skills that would enable them to provide best learning experience for our students
    • Designing training sessions on educational technologies specific to SLCL and providing staff with the training opportunities
    • Providing support and training specific to the new UCD VLE i.e. Brightspace – module design, content migration, assessment and feedback, online activities functionalities within the VLE
    • Identify baseline standards/checklist for modules in the VLE
    • Provide staff with supporting materials focusing on educational technologies / emerging technologies
  2. Effectively enhancing the current school offering with educational technology (both language and content modules)
    • Create interactive and engaging rich media content that can be used either in a blended (flipped approach) or purely online courses within the SLCL and outside of it (Erasmus Plus prep course, Intercultural Communication)
  3. Promoting consistent approach to the online and blended modules provision utilising best practice in Instructional Design
  4. Sharing practice within the school via a school meeting and showcase the ways technology enhanced the SLCL modules
  5. Promoting and researching technology enhanced assessment and feedback mechanisms with a view to share best practice internally and externally to UCD
