Congratulations to Derval Conroy who has been awarded the distinction of the medal of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Embassy in Ireland in recognition of her services to the promotion of French language and culture within the Irish educational context 👏

Let's start into the new week by introducing our current Irish Research Council funded postdoctoral scholars:

New publication edited by "Social and structural aspects of language contact and change" edited by Professor Bettina Migge and Professor Shelome Gooden.

"José and Pilar", a documentary by Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, is a deeply moving story about love, loss and literature. It follows the days of José Saramago, the Nobel-laureate Portuguese novelist, and his beloved wife, Pilar del Rio.

Congratulations to Alexandra Brown, final-year student of Commerce International with German, who co-moderated a fascinating translation event at the @goetheinstitut_irland, on Tuesday 25 October. Alex is taking the Advanced German translation module this semester and has completed the module Transcultural Encounters 1.

'Crossing Cultures' is back! The seminar series organised by #ucdslcl Postdocs will return with three online talks, the first one taking place on 10th November at 6pm. The Zoom link will be shared on our website shortly: https://buff.ly/3CKPRh0

UCD French salutes acclaimed writer Annie Ernaux's 2022 #NobelPrize in Literature. For the past 7 years Ernaux's micro-stories of class betrayal & of French sub/urban lives have been required reading for all UCD students graduating in French.
